Black Mirror: Bandersnatch Review

As a fan of the Netflix series “Black Mirror” I was definitely looking forward to the next installment of their mind-fucking stories of the technological realm. For those that have never seen black mirror here is an excerpt from wikipedia that perfectly sums it up.

Black Mirror is a British anthology science fiction television series created by Charlie Brooker, with Brooker and Annabel Jones serving as the programme showrunners. It examines modern society, particularly with regard to the unanticipated consequences of new technologies. Episodes are standalone, usually set in an alternative present or the near future, often with a dark and satirical tone, though some are more experimental and lighter.

Now that you understand the show I was wondering how they can top episodes like “Archangel” and “Crocodile”. Well at long last they have finally released their newest installment in the series and it certainly wasn’t what I was expecting, a movie. That’s right, this year Netflix released a Black Mirror “Interactive” Movie and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. This time however, the Creators decided to one up themselves and allow the show to leap out from out the screen and into reality.

This movie, set in the 80s, follows the protagonist (insert name), as he tries to build an epic video game title called Bandersnatch for consoles like Atari; however, as he dives into the origins of his favorite book (also titled Bandersnatch) he uncovers strange conspiracies that lead him to make even stranger decisions.

This movie is by far one of the most unique ways to experience cinema and this title definitely found itself alone in between movie and video game in a best of both worlds scenario. Each scene was gripping and I truly felt immersed in the Black Mirror world. Best of all it gave you power to decide where you want the story to go which is really awesome and gives each viewer a unique experience.

Overall this is a must watch and unique experience that I truly enjoyed. I also recommend once you finished the whole story to replay it a few times and search for some of the Easter eggs they had peppered throughout the show, as well as experiment with different choices. Also for a bonus round try watching this movie lit. I first saw this movie while taking bong rips and it truly enhanced my experience since I began to fall into the story only to be startled and pull back to reality by my rumbling ps4 remote (Netflix on ps4 was another good choice).

Final thoughts

This is by far the best installment of the Black Mirror Series.

A MUST WATCH!
